Dr Geoff Main is a Senior Lecturer (E&S) specialising in the multiple and complex ways that natural hazards interact with human society across spatial and temporal scales. He is the Admissions Officer for the Centre for Geography and Environmental Science, Academic Employability Lead, and Programme Director for Placements.
His research explores questions of risk, uncertainty, vulnerability, resilience, disaster management and disaster risk reduction. He has worked on these themes in Tenerife, Wales, Cornwall, and Malta where he has a specialist research focus working with partners including the University of Malta. Dr Main’s research aligns with the Active Earth research group at the University. He is also interested in the pedagogies of geography and geoscience in higher education.
Dr Main is considered an excellent educator by students and staff having been shortlisted for Academic of the Year, nominated for Champion for Students, and receiving a Vice-President and Deputy Vice Chancellor Education & Student Experience Commendation in 2023. He is passionate about the student voice and community with a keen interest in widening participation in higher education.
