Robin is Associate Professor of Geology within Camborne School of Mines (CSM) and specialises in structural geology and tectonics, geological field data acquisition, including surface and underground geological mapping, and the geology and resources of Cornwall and SW England. He is also Undergraduate Admissions Tutor for Geology and Mining programmes.

His research on the geological evolution of Cornwall and SW England spans Devonian stratigraphy and sedimentology, Variscan / post-Variscan tectonics and structural geology, granite magmatism (Cornubian Batholith), mineralisation, geothermal resources and coastal landsliding (publications here). He has been involved in collaborative research and knowledge exchange projects with most of the minerals and geothermal companies that have operated in SW England during the last 15 years and has been supported by UKRI and EU funding.

Robin's teaching comprises largely structural geology and tectonics, geological fieldwork skills and the supervision of BSc / MSci / MSc projects.
