Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion

"Our core principles - Community, Inclusion, Discovery, Excellence, and Respect - are the foundation of our endeavours. These values have steered the development of our strategy, aligning our objectives and future achievements with the essence of our department: leading the charge toward a fair, socially equitable, and inclusive society.

Furthermore, these principles serve as our compass, shaping our conduct to maintain a vibrant, varied, and global community within our department. We are committed to ensuring that all our policies embody inclusivity.”

Advance HE’s Athena SWAN Charter was established in 2005 to encourage and recognise the commitment to advancing the careers of women in science, technology, engineering, maths and medicine (STEMM) employment in higher education and research. In May 2015 the Charter was expanded to include arts, humanities, social sciences, business and law (AHSSBL) departments, in addition to professional and support roles.

In 2020, Advance HE launched the transformed UK Athena Swan Charter following a period of review. The Charter now recognises work undertaken to address gender equality more broadly, and not just barriers to progression that affect women.
